trip to Poland in July 2012

Ok...it took me a while but here they are - the sketches from our trip to Poland in July 2012.

We arrived to Łódź and here is a sketch of myself (wearing far too many layers for the Polish summer)
and a brave woman who stopped the whole bus and helped to catch a thief.

In Kazimierz Dolny. Konrad is doing his presentation about synagogues and then chilling out
in the garden (slightly overwhelmed by the warm weather - over 35C and
the abundance of plants, insects and other creatures).

The good news is that bears have woken up from winter hibernation and they are flying again. All is well.

New Year in Lochcarron

Sketches from our New Year's trip to Highlands. There was not much of the sun out there - the most spectacular clouds, rain and snow and rain again - so the sketches are rather grey (the main reason was me being too lazy to use anything more than a black pen and a pencil) .  

The best breakfast of the year - scrambled eggs with smoked salmon.

There was more deer than sheep out there. No hares though.

Here is us stuck in a car during a sudden snowstorm. Very steep and winding single lane road and the best piece of advice I've had in a long time (from a van driver) - whatever happens do not touch the break!

A little update from my sketchbook.

ms lioness has a new bag

A little update on what's been going on in my sketchbook recently. And yes! I've got a new bag! A proper bag with internal pockets and adjustable strap. My first ever proper bag! It is slightly different to the one that Miss Lioness is proundly wearing but I am as happy as she is.

sketches from berlin

I am not sure if I mentioned it here before but I fell in love with Berlin. The same way I fell in love with Rotterdam and other cities which are not beautiful in a way some of European cities are but they definately have huge amounts of energy hidden under not-particularly-renaissance surfaces.

For some reasons I didn't feel like sketching when walking/running/jumping/flying through the city (definately not Edinburgh scale). This is why all the sketches are made at our friends's place during our nice and calm evenings that were at some points even more inspiring Berlin itself!

I found some sketches in my moleskine that I've never posted for some reasons.
Our friend Amelia during one of our very long board game sessions. I know that Amelia is a regular visitor to this blog but she never leaves any trace. Perhaps she will leave a comment this time...

A beautiful, dark and rainy Monday morning in a coffee shop...

One of the very rare occasions, when there was no traffic on Lothian Road and I could stand there and make a sketch. A peculiar event to watch too.  .  

A couple I saw in a coffee shop and absolutely loved the way they looked. 

I feel like making more sketches of people again.

Mada and John came over to visit us (in September I think, ages ago). A very quick sketch made in a pub and another one on the way back from Anstruther. It was a fantastic day out, good food - fish and chips, nice walk with spectacular views and my favourite swings in Pittenweem - you cannot expect more from life!

edinburgh festival

The sketches I made ages ago. In August. First one is from our degree show. As I am rather scared of mannequins I was a bit a challenge for me to spend a week overlooking the show sitting just opposite this preety mean looking lady. I am pround of myself that toward the end of the week I even managed to draw her! And two sketches from my favourite event ever - Edinburgh Book Festival.

Szkice, które zrobiłam wieki temu. Pierwszy jest jeszcze z czasów naszej wystawy. Raczej nie lubię manekinów, a tutaj byłam zmuszona spędzic cały tydzień w towarzystwie tej przerażającej pani. Całkiem byłam z siebie dumna, jak udało mi się ją nawet pod koniec tygodnia narysowac. A pozostałe dwa rysunki z mojej ulubionej imprezy edynburskiej - Edinburgh Book Festival. Niewiele lepszych rzeczy wydarza się w tym mieście.

I've never learnt properly how to draw hands. Always been rather scared by the vision of drawing them and quite often left people on my sketches hand-less which was a bit creepy. So now I am going to draw more hands every now and then (partly because of the project I am planning to work on soon). The drawings are ugly and awkward at the moment but hope to get better soon. Wearing funky nail polish does help though!
